I’ll be honest, anything citronella is usually not my first choice for soap because I naturally do not love the smell of citronella. Gardener’s Paradise is definitely citronella-forward at first, and I know that scent may not be for everyone.
But as someone who gardens, works outside, and is basically an outdoor junky during the summer, this is the soap I keep reaching for. Once I’m out of the shower, the scent settles down and becomes much lighter on my skin, but it still seems to be enough that mosquitoes and flies leave me alone.
I love being outside with other people who are swatting bugs away while I’m standing there completely content, not being bothered. The only time I usually end up with mosquito bites is when I have been away from home or skipped using the soap for a couple of days. When that happens, I wash with Gardener’s Paradise again, and I am not up all night scratching like I used to be.
I have tried so many bug bite creams and products in the past, and most of them never worked well for me. This soap has become the one thing I keep going back to during bug season.
Beyond the outdoor benefits, this soap leaves my skin feeling clean, soft, and conditioned. My feet used to get so dry in the summer from wearing flip-flops, but since using this bar, they stay soft and never get that dry, cracked feeling anymore.
So no, citronella is not usually my favorite scent. But Gardener’s Paradise has become my summer must-have because it is the only thing I have found that helps keep the mosquitoes at bay while still making my skin feel amazing.
